Do you ever find yourself avoiding conversations with family, friends, or neighbors because you worry you might not agree? How can we begin to feel comfortable talking with one another again and start healing the divisions between us?
Here’s one idea: What if our faith community gathered in a relaxed setting to discuss questions we may not all agree on—and practiced truly listening to one another with respect?
Since February, a group at St. Luke has been doing just that. About 15 participants have met monthly in the Great Room on the second Saturday morning of each month. The pilot program has been a great success, and now we’re inviting everyone at St. Luke to join in!
Our one ironclad rule: No one may say the name of a politician, candidate, officeholder or political party. If you do, you owe a quarter (cash or IOU accepted)—thus the name of our group, Keep Your Quarters, Please (or just “Quarters,” for short). Believe it or not, our discussions have been lively, fun and often filled with laughter—and so far, no quarters have been collected!
This is a self-guided group—each month, the next topic is chosen together.
